What We Believe:
The Bible is God’s revealed word to man and was written by men under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Through the Bible God reveals Himself to man and how he may be restored back to Him. Jesus is the hero of the Bible. It is true and absolutely sufficient for all areas of life.
The God of the Bible is one God who has existed eternally in 3 persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each member of our one Trinitarian God plays a unique role in the redemption of the world, yet they are one in essence and nature. He is the one and only true God. He is perfect, without sin, all knowing, all powerful, and sovereign over all things. He is just and righteous in all His dealings as the creator of all things. God is love and the author of salvation. Because God is the author and creator of all things, He has the right to demand the worship of all of His creation.
Jesus Christ is God and co-equal with the Father and Holy Spirit as the second member of our one trinitarian God. Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God and played an active role in the creation of all things. Jesus Christ was born of the virgin Mary and was conceived by the Holy Spirit. He lived a sinless life, died a death as a substitute for all would repent of their sins and place their faith in his substitution on their behalf. Jesus is fully God and fully man. He conquered sin and death through rising from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit. He intercedes on behalf of God’s people as our great High Priest. Jesus is and always has been God’s solution for man to be brought back into fellowship with Him. Jesus modeled in his incarnation the life that we His people are to live and He has commissioned His Church to do so. Jesus Christ now sits at the right hand of the Father until he comes again to receive His Church and judge the world.
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is God and co-equal with the Father and Son as the third member of our one trinitarian God. It is the Holy Spirit that brings men to an understanding of who they are in accordance with the teachings of the Bible, who God is, and their need for the grace found exclusively in Jesus. It is the Holy Spirit who brings spiritually dead men to life and provides them the faith to believe the Gospel. It is the Holy Spirit who inspired the writings of Scripture and illuminates those Scriptures to those within whom He dwells. It is the inner witness of the Holy Spirit that provides the believer assurance of salvation and the power to become conformed the image of Jesus Christ. It is the Holy Spirit that empowers the Church to serve God here on earth.
Man was created by God and for God. Man was created in the image of God, perfect, and without sin . Man was created with a free will and is morally responsible for his actions. Man was created to glorify God and in doing so, experience true joy forever with God. As a result of Adam’s sin all men are now born with an inherent and willful sin nature deserving of death and judgment separated from God.
Salvation is God’s redemption plan that we see unfolding from Genesis to Revelation in the Bible. It is about a loving and just God who sends His perfect Son to pay for and conquer the sins of all men and women who would believe by faith so they can once again be restored to that purpose for which they were created, worshipping and giving glory to God. That which was destroyed by sin will be made new.
Baptism and The Lord's Supper
Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer's faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Saviour, the believer's death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus. It is a testimony to his faith in the final resurrection of the dead.
The Lord's Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby members of the church, through partaking of the bread and the fruit of the vine, memorialize the death of the Redeemer and anticipate His second coming.
The Church is a living and breathing organism consisting of those who have professed faith in Jesus Christ. It is God’s mission advancing agency in the world till Jesus Christ returns. The church is also the local gathering of Christians who have professed the gospel and have identified with Jesus Christ through water baptism. The church seeks to live out the commands of Jesus and the Apostles in that it follows Biblical leadership models, makes disciples, preaches the Bible, observes the Lord’s supper, and seeks to send out others to plant more churches for greater gospel advancement. Jesus Christ is the head of the church and it’s primary objective is to bring glory to God.
Campus Church affirms the truths of the Bible as stated in the Baptist Faith & Message 2000 and comes under the pastoral care and doctrinal oversight of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville in partnership with Baptist Collegiate Ministries.
